Dolphins have two types of comunication systems:
- Verbal. Emitting sounds through nasal spiracles. Usually takes place in water. The whistles are unintelligible to the man because its tone and frequency are very high.
- Through a series of clicks that act as a sonar.
I do not think dolphins really help people like Nikki learn to speak. Dolphins motivate people to make an effort to be understood and comunicate what they wants. The effort of other persons would be more important in order to learn a language.
In the U.S., since the 60's, the army trained dolphins to detect mines, to protect their installations and to attack enemy forces. Environmental groups are against such practices.
The dolphins are the protagonists of legends and stories. These animals often help the heroes when in danger.
