I am from Catalonia. The common names where I'm from are Jordi, Laia, Mercè, Miquel... There are a lot of common names but my family name is not a common name and it doesn't tell us anything about my family. There are some names which refer to professions such a Fuster (baker). Most people in Catalonia use English names such a Kevin.
In my country when we meet someone we use his/her fist name and we use surnames with a title (Sr./Sra.) whit formal conversations. Here the are common pet names such a "carinyo".

I am from Catalonia and the common names where I’m from are names such Marc, Joan, Jordi, Pol, Marta, Núria, Laia…
My family name (Bordas) is not really a common name here and it doesn’t tell anything about my family, but I can say that it is used too in Pyrenees, Navarra, and Basque Country. And also in France, where there is an editorial with this name.
Some catalan surnames refer to professions, such Ferrer or Fuster.
My first surname derives from the word “Borda”. It means the gunwales, which are small buildings, situated in the mountains, often isolated and usually away form the people, and they are used to keep the cattle and grass... Most of them are located in the Pyrenees. Many gunwales have been restored and converted into restaurants in Andorra.
In my country many people use other names original from other countries like English names such Jonathan or Christian
When we meet someone we usually use the first name and we use surnames with a title (Sr/Sra) for formal conversations but we used them too when the other person is old, or in some jobs, when the other person has an important position.
Like in other languages, we use common pet names in Catalan that show affection, such reina (queen), princesa (princess), carinyo (Darling), but for example people use pet names that don’t have really a meaning, but they show affection too, like cuca, nina, cuki,…
