The origin of my familiy name
Posted: Tue Jul 06, 2010 4:52 pmAGUILAR is a family name that comes from the latin language "aquilare", that means "place where the eagles (águilas) live".The origin of this lineage is in the Reconquest, when the christians recovered the lands that the muslims occuped for centuries. The soldiers received as a present for their job different plots of land and their familiy names were marked forever. The first house was Aguilar de Campoo. The name spread later to other territories, Navarra, Aragón, Catalunya, Valencia, La Rioja, Asturias and Galicia. In Catalunya, the name settled strongly, but my one comes from Castila, not from Catalunya.

Josep Aguilar i Alòs, military man and major of Balaguer in the XVIII Century. He participated in the batlle of Barcelona in 1714 that later was decided to be the national journey of the Catalan people.
Ramón Aguilar i Moré: painter artist, he was born in 1924.
Places names: AGUILAR DE SEGARRA or CAN AGUILAR (into Sant Pere de Tona); out of Catalonia perhaps the most famous is Aguilar de Campoo, "the origin".

If I look for my name in the internet, I find it related exactly to me and my job as a journalist, on the catalunya radio's website and other media websites that sometimes refer to me because some of my informations. If I want to find somebody with my name, I have to type my first name in Spanish. I've found even one damianaguilar with a personal website, engineer from Murcia. Curious!
