Sometimes there are injustices when and athlete has a false positive in a drugs test. This was the case of Pep Guardiola, the FC Barcelona coach and former player. When he was a football player in Italy with the Italian Brescia Calcio, he had a four month ban after testing positive for Nandrolone. Six years later, on 23 October 2007, Guardiola was cleared on appeal of all charges that had led to the ban. However, the Italian National Olympic Committee reopened the cause against the player, because it considered the argumentation of the absolution unacceptable, but he was cleared once again on 29 September 2009.His time in Italy was not nearly as successful as his career at Barcelona.

Nandrolone (19-nortestosterone) is an anabolic steroid that may be present naturally in the human body, albeit in minute quantities of less than 0.4 ng/ml.Nandrolone is most commonly sold commercially as its decanoate ester (Deca-Durabolin) and less commonly as a phenylpropionate ester (Durabolin). Nandrolone decanoate is used in the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (though now not recommended) at a dose of 50 mg every three weeks. It is also used for some aplastic anaemias.

A steroid is a type of organic compound that contains a specific arrangement of four rings that are joined to each other. Examples of steroids include cholesterol, the hormones estradiol and testosterone, and the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone
