I'm from Canary Islands and we have there very differents names, like: Arminda, Yaiza or Ico, for girls and Ayoze or Bencomo for boys. Those names came from the old natives of the islands before the "Conquest". But we also have the commons names from the spanish people, like Pérez, García, etc. My surname is Ojeda and yes, it is very common there. It seems it cames from one of the spanish conquerors.
We don't have or i don't really know if we have those names who refers some professions. I don't think so!
Lately it seems very common name the kids with english names like Jonathan, etc.
When we meet someone it's very advisable to use his surname, above all, if that person is older than you. You can use his first name if he says so.
We don't really use Mr. or Mrs. as much as the english people.
Talking about pet names, we have ours as well, like: cariño, querido, churri, chata...etc.
