Joan, Pau, Júlia and Carme are common first names, and Casademunt or Prats are common surnames in Catalonia.
My family name, Calvo, isn’t common and doesn’t tell me anything about my family.
My surname is an adjective that describes hairless people, and in English it’s translated like bald.
There are a lot of catalan names (Ferrer, Oller, Metge, Pellicer, ...) that refers to trades and professions.
Names like Hosbaldo and Mohamed are names of other countries that are popular in my country.
When catalan people meet someone for the first time in a casual situation, we use their first name, and in a formal situation the title Sr./Sra. before the surname.
