My name is Belinda Fernandez, and as you probably know, Fernandez is the second most common family name in Spain. Anyway when I sign a mail or document I only use my first name because with it occurs the opposite, it is strange to find other Belinda. In all my life I only met one Belinda. Sometimes I forget the document or mail I’m signing is too formal to use only my first name…
When I was a child, my name resulted for me sometimes a trouble. In the 70´s in Spain all the girls had the name María before their name, commonly names with religious content. So the first question was. You don’t have the name María before your name? and the second Belinda? With “b” or “v”?, or could you repeat your name pls? it’s a rare name.
Nowadays, in a country with a lot of Sheilas, Jennifers, Richards etc, all of them with a perfect Spanish accent, I feel my name is going to be very normal, afortunately ¡¡¡¡
