In Catalonia, there are very common names like Jordi, Maria or Joan but now the child have other names as Martina, Jan or Pol.
My second name is Carnicé, in English main Butcher profession. My family name not is common but you can find this surname in some villages and towns like Lleida or Sabadell i Terrassa, near of Barcelona. In Catalonia there a lot of names that refer professions as Ferrer, Carceller o Carnicé.
When I meet someone I can use the first name or the first name and surname, depend of the moment. If I know a friend of one of my friends, for example, I’ll only use the first name. However, If I know a new person at work, is probably I’ll use the first and second name.
I rarely use surnames with a title. It’s only at work or in a serious organizations but normally it’s not necessary.
In Catalonia there are common pet names that show affection too but not only. There are pet names refer to weather, astrology, cartoons or the person name, as Duna or Lola.
