I found a website called http://www.surnames.org with a big description.
Martínez is a Spanish surname.
There is more than a million of families around the world called Martínez.
The end EZ means that I have to be son of Martin. This is the origin of the surname. But my father's first name is Joan, too.
In Catalonia, we have two surnames. The first is given by the father and the second by the mother. Martínez is a very common surname and people attach both surnames to be better identified. Then, people knows me better if I tell them I'm Mr. Martínez Roca.
