Where I was born, most common names are the same as typical spanish ones, my family name "Martínez" i think is this is the most common name, so it doesn't tell something about where we come from. This days there are a lot of foreign names that are very popular in my country as is Jennifer, Jonathan. When I meet someone for the first time I use to say "Marce", and usually they say "Whatttt? or How???", and then "Ahhhh". after my twice or more. I use their first name, when they are close to me in a family or a friendly way. In Spain there are a lot of pet names such as "cari, cielo, ..." and much more.
