In my country, usually common names don't have any sense as in other counties like Germany. My family name “Subias” is not very common, it come from Catalunya, it is a place located on the northwest of Spain; my family name means “going up”. Some times you can find some family names with some meaning as our president “Zapatero” it means shoes man; or Torres / tour, the popular football player. In Spain is very usual introduce people with the surname it is more friendly, only in work it use family name with Mrs. or Mr., only young people use pet names, adults use short nemes.
