Little anteater
TAMANDUA TETRADACTYLA CHAPADENSIS
Of the guaraní "tamandúa", the anteater chico is one of the two autochthonous species of South America.
Better known in the southern cone as Tamandúa, this small anteater is a mammal threatened with extinction in Uruguay by poaching, habitat destruction and accidents crossing the routes.
His coat distinguishes him: pale yellow with a dark vest. It feeds on thousands of ants every day. Of nocturnal habits and agile between the branches, he is recognized by his kind temperament and by his walk "renga" affected by the long nails.
