The rhea is a flightless running bird, also known as Suri, Ema, American Ostrich, or Rhea americana whose name comes from Rhea, its scientific name.
This bird in danger of extinction in Uruguay measures 1.50 meters, approximately; inhabits plains, plateaus or open areas devoid of thick vegetation, allowing them to move, on the run, with ease.
It has very long legs and neck, as well as two large wings, which although they do not serve to fly, it uses them to maintain balance in its rapid movements.
It usually feeds on insects, herbs, fruits, small mammals and even snakes, ranking as one of the omnivorous animals in danger of extinction in Uruguay.
