· How many Americans suffer from sleep disorders?
Statistics from the National Center on Sleep Disorders show that sleep disorders and disturbances afflict about 70 million Americans.
· What are the symptoms of sleep disorders?
Insomnia is itself often a symptom of other problems. Typical patterns of insomnia include the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep at night, waking up earlier than usual, and daytime fatigue. Most people with insomnia don't fall asleep in inappropriate situations, like driving. If this does occur, it may signal that a medical disorder (such as sleep apnea) is the cause of insomnia.
· What causes snoring? Are there any ways of avoiding it?
· Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, but in other cases, it can be rather loud and quite unpleasant. Generally speaking, the structures involved are the uvula and soft palate. The irregular airflow is caused by a passageway.
If you are having snoring problem, the change of your sleeping method is the biggest remedy. If you are a back sleeper, first try to be a side sleeper. Other case if you are a side sleeper but still has a snoring problem; better try to be a tummy sleeper. For back sleepers, this is the time to change your sleeping style. Using a single small rubber ball, you can change your sleeping style from back to side. Change of diet also helps. There are many products available in pharmacies which can also be used to alleviate the problem.
Consult a doctor when there is a real need to solve the snoring problem.
