I find all the posts I have read interesting but I have chosen yours to post my reply because my case is a bit different and I would like to share the situation in my country with you.
Here, in my little town you can notice quite a wide variety of styles and social groups. Thinking for a while I have counted around six of them. For example, there is a big part of the students in my high school who are called "Killos". They don't like to talk in Catalan because they consider themselves Spanish and they also think Catalan should be banned like in Franco's dictatorship. For me, they are ignorant people. They usually wear baggy jeans and T-shirts and most of them are Real Madrid's fans.
Another big social group is formed by the opposite kind of people: the ones who would like Catalunya to be an independent country. The most typical thing is that they wear kind of a mixture between hippie and trendy clothes. They are involved in cultural representations such as "Castellers" or town festivals and they may care about environment too.
The existance of these two groups doesn't prevent punks, "retro" people, skaters and a lot of other styles to appear and to suffer changes constantly aswell.
All in all, I would state that yuppies and yubbies may not be the same in all the countries but there are lots of different styles with different names which can be compared to each other. And what is sure and we all notice is that all of them suffer changes and evolutions that allow these styles to be appropiate to modern times.
