Net addiction

Net addiction

I don't think net addiction is exaggerated. Being hooked on the web is a real problem for the social isolation that produces. Nowadays we use the net for a lot of things: buying, working, communicating, banking, studying, etc. and it's easy to become adddicted, still more if you have a natural predisposition.
In order to alleviate his problem I would advise Roger to fix a time limit for using the computer and to try to stick to it. I also would advise him to try to meet in the street the people he knows through internet in order to speak to them directly.
For my part I use a computer an average of seven hours a day, not only at work but at home as well and in an increasing way. I could not live without it because I do too many essential things through it.
Another topical addiction is shopping addiction. The consumer society is the culture medium. We live in an age of excess, we want a lot of things and we want them at once. People are becoming addicted to instant responses and rewards and computers are not any more than an instrument that allows that immediate prize.
