No, I'm not talking about Kevin Kline's movie :)

NetLanguages proposes me to talk about what's in and what's out at the moment where I live. It's funny because I live near Barcelona, and everybody living here know that just walking by the downtown of the city, you can get an idea of what's trendy at the moment. But I have to admit I have no idea, I just do my way and pay no attention of what it's going on socially speaking.

If I had to say something I seemed to notice that kids nowadays are into "High School Musicals" and this kind of Disney products, in music, techno I guess it's still the in thing in some discos, and there is more variety in cinemas than just the typical american movie. But I'm not quite sure of any of these and don't make me talk about clothing and hairstyles because I wouldn't be able to say anything about it

Anyone has an actual idea of what it's fashionable nowadays?

Hello Lluis!

It's true that if you go to the city centre of Barcelona, you can find different styles of people. If we take into account that there are a lot of tourists from different countries, you can imagine... I agree with you when you say that most teenagers have an style similar to "HSM"!! Yes, but I suppose that when we were young, it was more or less the same. I remember when I was 14 years old, it was very common to listen to NQOTH (New Kids On The Block). This music group was very fashion!! But nowadays, young people don't know who they were. Nowadays it's very usual to have some tattoos and/or piercings, although you are young, very young. It seems to me that it is a very different style if I compare it with the one I lived when I was a teenager. If we talk about clothes... well, nowadays if you talk with your parents, you can realise that some fashion clothes of their young age, are the same these days.

Do you think that fashion clothes (for example) have a cycling period?

Hello Fatima,

I'm not really sure.

It is true that we've seen people wearing similar clothes than that of the 60s, 70s and 80s, but maybe we're looking at a too short period of time. With our little experience we've seen a cycle in clothing, that's for sure, but it seems that is a cycle never seen before in history. Maybe nowadays, the "western society" can afford to think of other things than food or survival, and we can put our efforts in fashion, to name one. So, the need to "reinvent" style more rapidly is making the designers to run out of new ideas, I don't know. We'll see how fashion evolves. Maybe we get to see people in "back to the future"-style someday :)

PS: New kids on the block....... oh god, now that I had almost forgot them...
