COMPARING WRITING STYLES

I found in two internet news sites (BBC and Daily Mirror) two short articles about different topics.
The differences between the two articles are mostly the writing style and vocabulary. In BBC article language is much more formal than in Daily Mirror:
- BBC: This was a question I came up against in researching my book The Lost Battles: Leonardo, Michelangelo and the Artistic Duel that Defined the Renaissence
- DM: Easter Eggs getting smaller is probably a good thing for those battling expanding waistlines. But the prices aren't shrinking at anywhere near the same rate. Slimming like this could get eggspensive
For me is easier to read BBC article because is writen in a more standard language, with vocabulary that you can find easily in the dictionary. On the other hand, DM expressions, in this case, are writen with an ironic sense and it makes more difficult to understand what the writer try to comunicate.
I suppose that people who read BBC printed edition looks for objective news, writen in a formal style that keeps distance between writer and reader, and DM readers look for an informal style, with slang vocabulary and closer to people who identify themselves with this particular style.
