c) In and out of fashion.

I live in Osona, and here it’s in to live far away from big cities, specially far away from Barcelona, and if it’s possible to live in a doing up old house.
The kind of people who live following this way of life, use to have long hair, discreet little tattoos and some piercing, specially in the nose and the lip. They try to eat organic vegetables, either if they come from thousand of kilometres away. They use to be very gently and really involved with the neighbourhood.

I think that they are so tired of the style of live in big cities, and they try to find a better life in small villages.

Me, I live also in the country, in La Galera, in the very south of Catalonia (Terres de l'Ebre).
Here, as well as in Osona, there are more and more people "running away" from big villages (But not just Barcelona; even from villages like Tortosa -which has "just" 35.000 inhabitants!!!).
On the other hand new-arrival people here don't look different from the rest. You just wouldn't say they aren't locals!. The only difference is that they appreciate old traditional stone houses (compared to new semidetached houses, wich are the in between locals), and next to some plot of land they can grow as a hobby...

I agree with you that this migration is a kind of contempt to the stressing unnatural life style we associate to cities.

Well, I am living in Tàrrega, also far away from Barcelona, and I must to say I saw here the same tendencies you pointed in Osona and Ebre. More and more young people are involved in envirommental issues, try to eat organic, and love old stone houses.
I do not know if it is just a fashionable way to do, or it is a signal about something more deep changing in our society.
We will see it in some years.
