Unit 1 - 11 Net Search

Text 1:

The Guardian, “Tories raise alarm as George Osborne ends child benefit for all”, by Patrick Wintour.

Text 2:

The Sun, “The Well Fair State”, by Tom Newton.

• What are the differences in style between the two articles?
While the first article –The Guardian’s one- is written in an objective, rigorous and analytical style, the second one shows us directly the journalist’s opinion. Both of them use extracts of Osborne’s speech and also from other politicians. From my point of view, it seems to me that the second one’s register is more colloquial than the first one, more polite and cultivated.
• Which article did you find easier to read? Why?
The first one has been easier to read than the second article, because for a Spanish speaker latin words are more recognizable.
• What sort of person do you think reads the printed edition of each newspaper?
The article from The Sun has more pictures, more videos, and a colloquial register, so I think that its usual reader is a low or middle-class person. On the other hand, maybe the usual reader of The Guardian is a middle or high-class person.

What are the differences in style between the two articles?
The firt difference is that the first one has separate paragraph and the secon one is all the text in one. The first one has the letter bigger. More than this, in the second text there are lots of appointments, doing tmore difficult te read.

Which article did you find easier to read? Why?
Obviosly, the first one is easier to read because the second one seems to be bored, and difficult to understand.

What sort of person do you think reads the printed edition of each newspaper?
The first one is easy top read for everybody who likes o read news. I Think the second one is a text for peolple who are keen on the subject and know a lot of thinks about it.
