The style used in both articles is not the same because the origins of the papers are totally different. About the first one it can be said that is more like a broad sheet, a national newspaper where you can find national and international news, sports section, business and financial information, etc. the second paper is On the other hand, a local newspaper not exactly a tabloid containing information about news, events etc of local interest.
For that reason the first article uses more technical vocabulary than the second one.
Both articles where OK to read although the second one, was of course a little bit easier. I think this is because the vocabulary used in the second article approaches the one used on our day by day. Some words or expressions from the first article are just used when talking, or writing, in a very formal way and maybe because we are not used to talk in this particular formal way we can find the second newspaper easier to read and to understand.
I think that depending on what sort of information your are looking for you’ll read one paper or the other one. If you are looking for international information you’ll go for the first newspaper but if you are more interested in knowing what’s going on in your local environment you’ll read the second one.
