Unit 1 - Calling People Names - Net Search

My father always says that our surname Martín comes from France and it came to Spain in the 17th century when French troops moved to the Alpujarras’ military Headquarters.

Performing a search in the Internet I do not find any other person with the same name. I think that it is quite difficult for Spanish people to find other persons with the same name, because in Spain we use our father and mother’s surname. The occurrences are easier in countries where the people only have just one surname.

My name is Carmen Casado. Searching on the web I found some people called Carmen Casado, too. However as fmartin says, in Spain, usually people is called using a name and two surnames. So, I didn't find anyone called like me, Carmen Casado Huertas.

Casado is my Fathers's family name. In some web pages I read this surname is from Castilla, on the centre of Spain. But, in others, I read Casado is from Navarra. My grandfather was born in Navarra, so I think the second one is the real origin of my surname.
It is not very common surname in my country. However there are 11.000 families with this surname. In Madrid there are 500 families and in Barcelona there are 500, too.

In Latin America this surname is more common.

My name was common in 80's years I think it was beause a famous sing named his dauther like, now it's not than common,is common names like Mary,John or David, for years all the names are after fathers or mothers, but name people are changing this tradition.
My surname is Hungria and it's not common,I think in all Madrid you can find just a couple of them,I'm not sure the beggin of that,my grand-parents are from Castilla-la mancha, and all my fammily is from Spain.
Names like profession is posible but it's not common, almost I don't meet nobody. When you meet someone people don't say the surname just name, and depence if is oldest than you or similar to your ages, you call with titles or not,but is not usually on day.We do that to be respectful whit them.

Pet names are using with babies or ower partner but just when we are alone,I mean in privacy.People think than Spanish are cold.

I'm from Spain and here most of the names are linked to the Catholic tradition. Therefore, at the time of my parents, the most common names were Joseph, Mary or the name of a Catholic saint. Currently, parents choose names like "Jessica" or "Jade", which sounds more exotic. My name is Giovanni "and translated into Spanish is" Juan "and my parents chose it because my grandmother's family came from Italy. The surname of my family is Vargas. I think Vargas has no connection with any profession, but I know people that their family name is related to occupations. One example is the surname of the president of Spain, Zapatero.
In Spain it is normal to call people by their first name, unless you know a person you need to treat with great respect as someone older than you, a teacher or a boss.
In Spain, the more common pet names among couples are "cariño", "amor", "tesoro."... but I know a couple, too corny, that uses "melocotoncito" but that's another story ... There are people who have a great imagination with pet names.
