My first name is Alícia and I’ve found people called like me in the web; one of them, the famous pianist Alicia de Garrocha. When I meet somebody and introduce me with my first name the typical is hearing: like Alice in “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland” (the novel written by Lewis Carol).
Spanish common family names are López, Suarez, Rodríguez,… My family name is not common; it has Germanic influence and probably it means or describes a person who lived on the top of a hill in a defensive fortress, maybe a soldier who carried a spear or lance.
When I meet someone for the first time I use my first name and surname; I don’t know when I can use the first name for the others. In my country we use the surnames with a title only when it is a formal conversation or when we need to treat with respect or consideration somebody.
