WHEN PLANNING A LESSON, WHAT DO YOU DO?

I believe that in order to start planning a lesson successfully it is important, first of all, to be aware of the aim of that lesson. As teachers, we can choose whether to follow the coursebook strictly, to ignore it, or to use it partially at the same time as we are introducing our own material. Sometimes it is impossible to plan in great detail a lesson because pupils' reactions to certain tasks or topics may be unexpected. We may expect a task to be quite challenging for them but maybe they finish up faster than we had previously thought. For this reason, it is important to have at hand some time fillers. Finally, the lessons should be designed according to the group. Role plays or debates do not fit a group with a majority of shy students, for instance, so the teacher should not focus a whole class on doing this kind of tasks.
