English language have a enormous list of borrow words. Specially, this is posible because Great Britan has had a big influence around the world. Old English consisted of an Anglo Saxon base with borrowed words from the Scandinavian languages (Danish and Norse) and Latin. Latin gave English words like street, kitchen, kettle, cup. The Vikings added many Norse words: sky, egg, cake, skin, leg, window (wind eye), they, their, them. Celtic words also survived mainly in place and river names. Since Midle Age, Great Britain has had intense and continue relation with France (not good, always). French gave many English words: chamber, oudor, desire, power or reply. England had created The Great Britain Empire since 17 th century, more or less. English language had borrowed many words from languages from countries of the Empire such as Arabic, Hindi (from India), Farsi (from Iran and Afghanistan), Sanskrit (from ancient India), Tupi (from South America) and Ewe (from Africa).
