UNIT 3. NOTICEBOARD

1. Have you, or has anyone you know, ever suffered from RSI or SAD?
No, I don’t know anyone to suffer from RSI or SAD.

2. Do you make sure that you sit and type correctly when you use a computer or typewriter?
I always sit correctly when I start to typewriter but after ten minutes I blend my hands, back and legs.

Do you ever have pains in any parts of your body from using the computer for long periods of time?
Yes, normally I have got a pain in my back at night.

3. What advice would you give to someone who has just bought a computer to prevent problems like RSI and aches and pains in the back, shoulders and arms? Write five suggestions.
• You should buy a footrest to have a correct position and to blend the legs 90 degrees.
• You should buy an ergonomic chair and to keep the back straight.
• You should always keep your wrist straight and you change sometimes hands with the mouse.
• You should have an adjustable table, so you will put your height.
• You should rest in the work for a few minutes every hour.

4. Do you think the exercises described in READING are very useful and effective?
If you frequently practise this exercises, I think that it could relieve the pain certainly.

5. Do you do any exercises during or after working at a desk for a long period of time? Describe two.

For the first one, lie face up with your arms by your sides and look straight ahead. Slowly bend your right leg towards stomach and chest and in the same time stretches your right arm backward. Go as far as you can and hold the position during five complete breathing. Do this exercise during five complete breathing on both sides.

The other exercise, sit with your arms by your sides and look straight ahead. Slowly raise your right arm over your head and hold your right elbow with your left hand. Now, turn your body from the waist to the head toward the right side. Repeat this exercise during five complete breathing with each arm.
