My name is Rocío and I think is vey common in Andalucía, but it doesnt tell me anything about my past family.
My name doesnt mean anything about a profesion but my surname is Mesa and means table in English.
In Spain there is an english name a bit popular, thats Jenifer.
Here everybody use their main name ,except in a business appoitment where the people use their surname, then olways use the title Mrs or Mr because is more polite.
In spanish as in english, we use pet names that show affection, as darlin or honey, I think is the same in all countries.

Thanks for sharing this on the noticeboard. It's interesting to read about names in Spain. I think Rocío is a pretty name. I think that in English your name means "Dew" but I don't think that's a name in English.

My son's name is Hugo, we chose this name because in addition to call my husband so we liked.
It's a name of Germanic origin and means insightful, intelligent or brilliant.
In mythology, Hugo was one of the cuiervos of Odin, who informed him about what was happening on earth.
In 2008 he was one of the biggest names made the children born that year.

I live in Catalunya and the common names are Paula, for girls, and Marc, for boys. My name is Núria and we are a lot of women with this name.
My family name is unusual. I don’t know the origin of my family name but it refers to the “pomegranates”.
As I live in a town with a big percentage of immigration, I can see that Muhammad and Madalin are usual names. Apart of this, Jessica and Kevin are also names very used.
Usually, when you meet somebody, he/she is introduced with the main name and then she/he says “but my friends call me...”.
It depends on the situation that we use the first name (only with friends or when we really know that person) or we use Mr./Mrs (on business purposes).
Finally, we use the same pet names like in English: honey, darling, love, …
