the present perfect :
• Japan's prime minister has rejected China's demand for apology and compensation over the detention of a Chinese fishing boat captain, state media reported Sunday.
• Mexican police have arrested Margarito Soto Reyes, one of the leading members of the powerful Sinaloa drug cartel, the government says.

the present perfect passive:
• An appraiser has been asked to report back to creditors in a month's time on whether the company should be declared bankrupt.
• Vettel, who had been expected to take his eighth pole of the season, could not match either of Alonso's two final flying laps.

the past simple passive:
• It was a outstanding effort from Alonso after he was forced to pit in the second qualifying session with an engine mapping problem that restricted him to only one fast lap in that period.
• This is not surprising really, when you consider that the Ottoman Empire's biggest minority was driven out of Anatolia in 1915 on ghastly death marches.

•the present perfect for introducing recent news:
- The government claims that the policy has helped the country achieve 400 million fewer births during the past 30 years.
- But this has come at a painful cost - keenly felt by my generation and those after us.
•the present perfect passive:
- It has been signed by the National Cricket and football star Dennis Compton who was at his peak in 1947.
- A beer that has been stored or matured for a time at a cold temperature.
•the past simple passive:
- The results were only announced several hours after polls closed.
- The Banbury Guardian reported that about 50,000 panes of glass were broken in Chipping Norton during the 20-minute onslaught.
