If you want to get to Torquay from London in the shortest possible time, using public transport, you can go by train.
From Heathrow Airport take the “Rail-Air Link” bus to Reading Train Station, then train to Torquay. Journey time is about 3 hours. There are some direct trains, but one change may be necessary.
