an activity for teaching writing

I am quite fond of a writing activity that I have done several times with pupils belonging to an intermediate level. I ask them to tell me 10 words from any category (a verb, an adjective, an idiom…), and then I ask them to write a short composition. They come up with quite interesting plots and love reading their productions to the rest of their classmates. If you are practising specific vocabulary you can ask them to choose words belonging to that specific field.
