First of all, I want to say that I come from Albania.
Iir, Adrian, Genti are male common and Elvira, Fatmira, Anila are female common names in my country.
My family name “Lagji” which is given from a certain hill isn't quite common, but makes people understand that my family come from southern part of Albanian.
It means “neighborhood” in our language so doesn’t refer to profession or trades.
There are a lot family names that are refer to professions like butcher, barber, painter or to the religion where they come from eg Hoxha Prifti etc.
Names like Moustafa, Hamid, Qerim, Sherif are Turkish names and are very popular in Albania. That has been adopted in our culture after Turkish invasion.
Meeting someone for first time, we always use surnames with title. We can't use the title only when we are talking for someone that is not present.
Other cases when we use the first name are if the other one is friend of us, members of family or is younger than us.
E embel(sweet), flutur(butterfly) , rrush(grape), zog (bird), zemer(heart) are some of the words that show love and affection in our language.
