Yiddish

I read different informations by the net, and I learn that yiddish it’s a language which origin is from the central European Jewish, their name is Ashkenazic. It’s a hybrid from different languages but the most influencers were Germanic and Hebrew. But it’s not the same Yiddish spoke by the Jewish from Southern Europe and North Africa: the Sephardites Jewish.
Yiddsh it’s originated during the 9th century, and had great difficultys with the Holocaust during the Civil War II. Before the war there were about 11 million of Jewish spoken Yiddish. About 6 million died in the war. Actually there are 1.5 million and tend to increase the number of speakers

Hi David, yes Yiddish is an interesting case. The problem was not only WWII, it was also that in Israel they discouraged Yiddish and promoted modern Hebrew. Is the number of Yiddish speakers increasing? I didn't know that.
Thanks for writing!
See you soon,
