English file, upper-intermediate: this book provides students with lots of speaking activities. Every unit is started with some quote that students can discuss. For example, the first unit is about interviews and students can see a quote of a famous actor at the beginning. Then there is another speaking activity closer to the topic. It is usually connected to some photos. In the first unit there are two photos of actors that students can discuss before reading activity. Then goes more structured speaking activity: students should imitate the interview from reading task with their partners. Every listening or reading activity is followed by speaking. Also, there is a special section in the end of the book called “Communication”. It consists of many speaking activities mostly for working in pairs. These activities are suggested after every unit and they all have vocabulary connection to the topic. To adapt some speaking activities from the book for my group I’d personalize them. For example, students can use their phones (they are usually so excited to use their phones during the class) and find the picture of their favorite actor. They can work in pairs and tell each other about their celebrities.
